Indications:

• Silymarin (Milk thistle) is indicated for various liver conditions, including:
  • Liver disease (non-alcoholic & alcoholic)
  • Liver cirrhosis (non-alcoholic & alcoholic)
  • Infectious hepatitis
  • Drug-induced hepatitis
  • Liver disease secondary to diabetes mellitus
  • Toxicity of narcotics
  • Fatty liver
  • Jaundice

Pharmacology:

Silymarin provides hepatocellular protection by blocking toxins at the membrane level, enhancing protein synthesis, exhibiting antioxidant activity, anti-fibrotic activity, and potentially anti-inflammatory or immunomodulating effects.

Directions for Use:

• Take as advised by your physician, preferably with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet.

Overdosage:

• In case of accidental overdose, seek medical assistance immediately.

Interactions:

• Concomitant use of silymarin and certain medications like butyrophenones or phenothiazines may reduce lipid peroxidation.

Contraindications:

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to silymarin.

Side Effects:

Generally well tolerated, but may cause mild side effects like nausea, upset stomach, diarrhea, and headache.
